Rescue Ready facility officially opened

The Rescue Ready Facility has been officially opened. Senator Simon Birmingham doing the official honours on behalf of the Federal Government who funded the project.  The new facility has already become an invaluable asset to the Club, allowing for easy start up of patrols so that we can be on the beach for the community.

 

Proficiency Dates

Here are the remaining dates for ARTC, SRC & Bronze proficiencies and those wishing to complete an ATV assessment (need to complete ATV operator workbook & bring drivers license to be sighted):

Saturday 14 October -Loydy Patrol

Sunday 15 October – Freaky Patrol

Saturday 21 October – Jones Patrol

Sunday 26 October– Tidwell Patrol

Saturday 2 December – Brooksy Patrol

Sunday 10 December – Simsy Patrol

Saturday 23 December – Wickman Patrol

 

The first proficiency of the year support the Ducky Patrol to get 5 members dryly proficient. Please can ATV drivers please ensure that their license is on their member details on the online portal and that they bring their license on patrol to be sighted. Those still needing to complete the ATV course please complete the workbook. Training Update

The training season has started well with 2 Top up Bronze  and 6 new SRC’s training at State Centre who will be assessed on Friday 13 October. At Semaphore Jennifer Hansen has been training 3 Top up Bronze and 1 new SRC at Semaphore whom are preparing to undertake their assessment on Friday 20 October.

The First Training Patrol took place on Saturday 7 October and there was a good turn out and lots of direct training undertaken. All SRC/Bronze theory training will be completed at these patrols So please register interest in any training with instructor@semaphoreslsc.com.au so we can keep you up to date.

Next Timed Swim will be Wednesday 1 November

Next Training Patrol is Sunday 5 November

 

ARTC Course is running on 14 & 15 October 10am until 5pm.

Senator Simon Birmingham will be doing the official opening on behalf of the Federal Government who funded the project.

Upskill to Silver Medallion

If you hold and are proficient in the SLSA Bronze Medallion and also have a Certificate ll in Public Safety (Aquatic Search and Rescue) then here’s your opportunity to go to the next level.

SLSSA is facilitating a Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue (SMAR) course on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 March 2018, at Port Noarlunga SLSC.

As the name of the course implies, this course is about planning and performing complex aquatic and land-based searches and rescues, in the daytime and at night. The course includes developing a SMEAC plan, reading topographic maps/nautical charts, retrieving a submerged object, using search and rescue equipment (including FLIRs etc), jetty/pier and rock entries/jumps, working with and around the JRB/RWC, plus more.  Please see the attached Course Syllabus.

This course is directed at Patrol Captains, club 24/7 Call Out personnel, experienced patrol/water cover members, Support Service personnel etc.  

Prerequisites for this course are:

  • Be at least 16 years of age, and
  • Complete a 400 metre swim in 8 minutes or less in a swimming pool of no less than 25 metres long (this will need to be signed off by a Club approved Assessor) – swim time to be conducted and provided to SLSSA prior to Friday 9 March, and
  • Hold and be proficient in the SLSA Bronze Medallion (proficient for the 2017/18 season) and hold the Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue), and
  • Complete the eLearning prerequisite

 

The cost per participant will be $50, to partially cover food, drinks and resources.
