Seniors Update

Masters State Championships – are to be held on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th March at Christies Beach.

Nominations for those wishing to compete are now open.  At this stage a master list of competitors is to be submitted in order for verification checks to be completed.

Competitors will then be able to enter as many or as few events on each of the two days as they wish.  A full program of events will be released shortly.

If you would like to compete at this event please email Kerry Schulz at kschulz1000@gmail.com by 5pm Wed 25th February.

Clint Robinson – on Friday 20th February the club has managed to secure and fully fund a 2hr training session for all Seniors with Clint Robinson.

Clint is an Olympic gold medalist, multiple world champion and 38x Australian Lifesaving gold medalist.

This session will provide our Seniors with invaluable skills that they will be able to take into State Titles and hopefully utilise for many years to come.

We invite all our Seniors (U14s with SRC included) – no matter the skill level, out to train.  Clint will be able to help everyone in some way.  We also invite nipper coaches and all others that are interested to come down and observe the session as you will no doubt pick up some valuable skills that you will be able to pass on to our nippers.

The session will run from 5-7pm (5-6pm boards and 6-7pm skis).

Club Champs – were held on Saturday 14th February.  This was our inaugural ‘Whole Club’ Club Champs that saw Juniors, Seniors and Masters all compete on the same day. The day was very well-received and we hope to continue hosting Club Champs this way in future seasons.

A big thanks to all those that assisted with the smooth running of all events on the day ensuring we were off the beach before the heat of the sun fully took hold.

The evening festivities with wood oven pizzas (provided free of charge) and the jukebox ensured the day finished as it started – with everyone smiling.  Thanks to Carmel Kenny who decorated the club in a Valentine’s Day theme to make sure we all acknowledged the importance of the day!!

We had 38 Senior and Masters who competed in one or more of the 6 events – a great turn-out!

Club Champs Program 2014-15

Club Championships Map 2014-15

As you can see from the program this will be a busy but fun-filled afternoon.  As a result we are asking for ALL competitors be at the club ready to go by 12pm (only a little earlier than usual for the Juniors).

By holding a whole of club Club Champs day the Juniors will have a chance to watch the Senior group ‘in action’ and  the Seniors will have an opportunity to support the Junior squads.

With the program not likely to wind up until approximately 5pm a sausage sizzle along with bottled water and iceblocks will be provided on the beach from 3pm.

The day doesn’t end with the competition though!

Stay at the club and enjoy Valentine’s Day evening with wood oven pizzas (at a small cost), a few drinks and the entertainment provided by a jukebox/karaoke machine (which is sure to provide a few laughs!!).

Let’s make this a ‘Clubbies’ day/night to remember!!!

Senior Carnival 3 – Sunday January 11th

Senior Carnival 3 is again planned to be a ‘mobile’ event on the South Coast on Sunday January 11th.

At this stage the venue for all water events has not been confirmed. SLSSA will be checking conditions leading into the week-end and will make a decision on location from this. All people will be notified as early as possible and hopefully by Thursday 8th January at the latest.

See attached circular for full information – C14090 Senior Carnival 3 information

Events for male and female U15 (including U14s with SRC wishing to compete), U17, U19, and Open to include: –

Team – taplin, board relay, ski relay, double ski

* PLEASE NOTE – for this carnival the beach events are to be held at Seacliff SLSC on Friday January 9th 5pm.

The carnival point score system will again be implemented. Our points tally, although increasing can still be bettered.  This can only be done with a good team of competitors – something we are improving on with every carnival!  This is our last official carnival before the State Titles campaign starts in March so let’s make it count!

If you are keen to compete can you please email Kerry Schulz at kschulz1000@gmail.com by Tuesday 7th January 5pm.

Please let Kerry know all of the events (individual and team, including relevant age groups) that you wish to compete in. Exact teams will be dependent on numbers and will be decided on the day.

Meals and presentations will be held back at the club from 5.30pm on Sunday.  Menu details to be confirmed closer to the date.

Somerton Signature Challenge

Well done to the 6 competitors that took on the Somerton Signature Challenge on Sunday 21st December.

Senior Carnival 2 Wrap-Up

Senior Carnival 2 was held at Middleton beach and was SLSSAs first attempt at a ‘mobile carnival’ with support provided by both Pt Elliott and Goolwa SLSCs.

Our crew started the journey down the coast at 6am so for all it was a very long day.

We had 13 people nominate to do events and 10 compete on the day. Conditions were very tough with competitors from all clubs facing difficulties in water events.

Thanks as always must go to our officials – Raelene Donnell, Bob Brooks and Lauren Brooks. Thanks also to Neil Bisset for storing our trailer overnight and towing it down to Middleton and to Leanne Larven and Mardi Lienert for overseeing the U15s and girls events.

Please see below for a round-up of our results and the provisional point score which saw us finish 10th for the day.

* Danny’s ski may have come in before he did but he never let go of his paddle!

**Out of all the U17 females that attempted the ski (approx 9) only one crossed the finish line so well done Bryana on having a go!

*** Nick competed in the swim team in order to fill an open male team and unfortunately hurt his back when his foot dropped in a pot hole. This then put him out for the rest of the day. The Team Manager is still feeling guilty about this!

With one more carnival before our States campaign begins (save the date – January 11th 2015) we really want to see as many competitors on the beach as possible so that we can not only improve our points tally but have a strong team prepared for the 3 days of State Championships.

Senior Carnival 2 – Middleton – Sunday 7th December

Senior Carnival 2 is planned to be a ‘mobile’ event on the South Coast on Sunday December 7th.

This means that although the plan is for the event to be at Middleton SLSSA will be checking conditions leading into the week-end and will move if conditions warrant. All people will be notified as early as possible and hopefully by Thursday 4th December at the latest.

See attached circular for full information – C14082 Senior Carnival 2 information

Events for male and female U15 (including U14s with SRC wishing to compete), U17, U19, and Open to include: –

Individual – 2k run, sprints, flags, swim, iron, ski, board,

Team – taplin, beach relay, ski relay, swim teams

The carnival point score system will again be implemented.  We accrued enough points to see us finish 8th after carnival 1 so it would be great to add a larger number of points to our current tally and climb the ladder even further.

If you are keen to compete can you please email Kerry Schulz at kschulz1000@gmail.com by Tuesday 2nd December 5pm.

Please let Kerry know all of the events (individual and team) that you wish to compete in. Exact teams will be dependent on numbers and will be decided on the day.
