Social and Fund Raising Committee

Social and Fundraising Committee

It’s been a while since the club had a social and fundraising committee but we would like to start this important group up again.

If you have any ideas for social events and/or fundraising – or would just like to be involved we would welcome you joining this new group.

We will not be asking for too much of your time with the first priority to plan a calendar of events and activities for members and supporters (young and old).

An informal meeting will be held upstairs at the club on Sunday 21st October at 3pm for those that are interested in joining in.

For further information please give Pat Hansen a call on 0422 007 413 or email at phansen@adam.com.au.

Cross Country BBQ and Cake Stall a hit again!

Thank you to all of those who either volunteered or made items for the Club’s SAPSASA Cross Country BBQ and Cake stall.  As in previous years it was a huge success with the hungry runners.  Parents and teachers also sneaking a sausage or two and cupcake.  An extra thank you to Brad and Trudy Tunbridge who organised the event.  Our Club is a success because of its members.

Entertainment Books 2018

We are once again selling the entertainment books to help raise as much as we can this year. Last years books have just expired and the new book is once again filled with a bunch of great deals, just have a look below at some of the deals!

As per usual, we are fundraising through both the hard copy entertainment book, and the digital version, follow the links below to order your version. We aren’t storing any books at the club during our rebuild, but pickup from the shed can be organised through Sean McKenzie, who’s contact details are on the order link.

A message from the President

As the cold weather sinks in the Surf Club has probably slipped to the back of many peoples minds but things are still happening.  Your board met for a sunny Sunday strategic planning afternoon a couple of weeks ago so we could start putting things in place for next season.  We’ve also been planning for our upcoming presentation night on Saturday 23rd of June and our AGM on Sunday the 8th of July.  You should also have received a survey regarding memberships, please take the time to complete it – it’s your club and we want you to have a say in how we operate.  A few people who hold positions in the club are unable to commit to these roles again next season so keep an eye out and we’ll post details so you can consider how you might be able to contribute to our club, all board positions will be open for nomination as usual.

The Shed Bar

For those of you who haven’t been down we’ve got a cozy little bar running in the shed on Thursdays and Fridays from 5pm and Saturday and Sunday from 4pm (earlier some days – see below).  Drinks are cheap, we usually put out a few bar snacks and we’ve got a bit of carpet and some heating.  I counted 36 customers on a recent Thursday evening and while we were near capacity there was still enough room to mingle and chat – if the roller door is down to keep a southerly out enter from the side door.  Just a good place to catch up with colleagues from the club and other friends. Many thanks to Lyle, Freaky, Greg, Patrick and Sean for their tireless bar duties.

This Saturday we will have the Power V Gold Coast game on the big screen with the Shed open from 2:00pm, a limited range of hot food will be available and we might even organize some competitions to add a bit of interest.

Meantime, another great footy tipping competition thanks to Chris Mahney, good luck to those involved and good to see some new names on the leader board.

Rebuild Update

We’re past the halfway point in our club rebuild now and everything is on track to have the keys in hand by early to mid August.  It will take us a couple of weeks to get up and running from then as we move everything back in, work out where furniture etc will go, re stock the kitchen and bar and dozens of other little jobs.  The place has been gutted and our 1st fix electrical and plumbing are done, beams are going up, walls and ceilings are going up the stairs are gone and so are a lot of wall spans, below are a few snaps to give you an idea of how things will look.

Keep warm and stay safe,

Mick Kenny

President

A Big THANK YOU to our Canteen Staff

The Board of Management would like to extend a well-earned Thank You to our Canteen Staff who have volunteered their time to ensure our Nippers had access to great food, snacks and beverages prior to and after training on Saturdays. There will be more than a few kids and adults that will miss their weekly pre-training Toastie or Nugget Roll and post-training Nachos, Hot Dog, or Hot Chips, I think I even saw a Chiko Roll the other day!!

Thank You Lauren, Catherine and Heather, your efforts have been very much appreciated.

Please Note that the canteen will now be closed until after the club refurbishment.

If you would like full sized copies text Steph Breden on 0429 046 362 with your e-mail address, and the PDF page number(s) of the photo(s) required.

JUNIOR PARENTS – Want to get involved with your kids training?

Your kids love Nippers and we want you to get more involved in their experience. The best part is you add to your own.  Surf Life Saving is a rewarding experience for everyone, not just the kids!!  There are lots of different things that you can do and you don’t need to have come from a Surf Lifesaving background.  We have many parents who have gone on to become Patrol members, giving them the opportunity to provide Water Cover while their children are training.

After the Christmas / New Year break we will be seeking your involvement, either at training, or becoming more involved through roles such as event officials (it’s easier than you think), or patrolling members.

Please see your Age Group Manager, Junior Convener, or Junior Surf Secretary for more information or email – juniors@semaphoreslsc.com.au

Nippers returns on January 6th.  Enjoy the break and see you on the beach soon!
