Semaphore Balcony Sunday is back on April 9th
Sunday April 9th is the last Semaphore Balcony Sunday for the year so come on down for cheap drinks, free sausage sizzle, live music and best of all, quality time with all your club mates.
Youth Development Group 2017/18
We’re so excited to announce the formation of a new Youth Development Group at the Semaphore SLSC for the 2017/18 surf season.
Final details are currently in the planning but we can tell you now that the group will incorporate U14-17s and will be a fun, creative and enjoyable group that will incorporate surf lifesaving at its core.
The focus will be on bringing kids to the club weekly to catch-up with each other, patrol our beaches, participate in enjoyable and diverse training and help to further develop lifelong friendships, fitness and a sense of comradery.
For those with children in the current u13-16 age groups keep an ear out for updates regarding news and information on this awesome new initiative.
Semaphore SLSC Footy Tipping Competition 2017
The Semaphore SLSC Footy Tipping Competition is on again this season. Cost to enter remains at $50.00 per person & must be paid in full by the 3rd round of the AFL season. Obviously the more people that enter, the greater the prize pool will be. There will be prizes for those in 1st, 2nd & 3rd placing at the end of the season, as well as a prize for the tipster who comes 7th last. Prize money will be finalised once all money has been received. As per previous years if you put your selections in Thursday night over the bar at the club you receive a free drink (pint of keg beer or a glass of wine or a soft drink).
Full list of the competition rules will be given to those that enter the competition. If you are keen to be the best AFL tipster in the club & want bragging rights over other club members, please either put your name on the Footy Tipping Entry Form on the club’s upstairs notice board, or contact Chris Mahney at chris.mahney@peet.com.au prior to Tuesday 21st March 2017.
As an added bonus this year, any parent entering the main Footy Tipping Competition will have their children entered into a separate Footing Tipping Competition, just for those under 18 years of age (under 18 as at the start of the next surf season – 1st October 2017). There is no added cost for the juniors to participate, and with great prizes to be won, who wouldn’t want to participate?
Celebrate Australia Day at Semaphore’s favourite Family Club!
Head to the Semaphore SLSC this Australia Day for a frothy, some tucker and a few tunes!
The bar will open at 5pm.
Meals get underway at 6pm.
Specials include:
Oysters – 6 for $13 or 12 for $25
Good old Aussie Lamington and a Coffee $7
The Triple J Hottest 100 will be playing.
A great way to spend a few hours before the Semaphore Fireworks kick off.

Live Music Announcement for Semaphore Balcony Sundays Launch
Local musician and father of one of our junior members, Jason Sym-Choon will be playing an acoustic set on the balcony for the launch of Semaphore Balcony Sundays on Sunday, January 15. Jason is donating his time for the cause and will have his guitar case open for tips. Support our Building Fund by coming down to the club and make sure you bring along your friends.

$40 entry gets an armband, entry in the draw, drinks from the can bar included from 1pm till 3pm, one person drawn every 2 mins. If you’re drawn you are out of the running. Last person drawn wins the cash prize of $300.
For those wishing to come along and not enter the draw, drinks will be available for purchase from the can bar and the regular bar will be open from 3pm.
TDoggz Deluxe Hotdogs, will be selling food from 1pm -5pm.
Sidewood will be running a free wine tasting from 1pm – 5pm.

This is a call to arms.
If you’ve thought of an awesome way to raise money for the club now is your chance to bring it to life. Call Rhys to discuss your idea and be ready to be empowered to action it. We know that there must be plenty of fundraising and sponsorship ideas bubbling out of our awesome member base. Photos to raise money? For sure. Cake stall at Bunnings? We say yes. Golf Day tshirts? Why not. Mick Kenny car wash in his budgies? Ok maybe not that one. But seriously, we will help you to bring your fundraising idea into reality. We have the helpers on call, the marketing and social media team ready to push the go button. We just need you and your brilliant idea to step up and drive it.
No big idea but keen to help where you can? Join the Semaphore SLSC Volunteer Army by talking to any member who you know and asking them how they got involved or ask one of the Board of Management.

Suggested items are party pies, pizza, sandwiches, cocktail franks etc
Sweets –slices, cupcakes, fruit
NO nuts please.
Please bring all plates to the kitchen at the start of training. Volunteers are required so please come and see Lorren,Wendy or Catherine.
After training all children will have the chance to see Father Christmas and receive a small treat.

Congratulations to those who completed part of their proficiencies last weekend and we hope to cover more off this weekend and on Wednesday evening. A reminder that each participant must complete two proficiency swims but they must be on different days.

CLINICS
U/8 FUN CLINIC
Time: 11:00am- 12:30pm
Where: Clinic Area, Somerton Beach
Price: $10 per child
What to bring: Hi Vis Rashie, Water bottle, Sunscreen, Wide Brim hat & long sleeve top or rash top.
U/9-U/11 SUPERSTAR CLINIC
Time: 2:00pm 3:45pm
Where: Pink Area, Somerton Beach
Price: $10 per child (free with carnival
entry)
What to bring: Nipper Board, Hi Vis Rashie, Water bottle, Sunscreen, Wide Brim hat & long sleeve top or rash top.
The clinics will be a fun, enjoyable experience with the inclusion of beach games and water games. Athletes will be specifically looking at the skills of wading and bunny hopping.
How to register: Places are limited please have your club register you through the Event management system.
Please note clubs will need to provide Age Group Managers for the children in the clinic for the duration of the clinic.

Start 12.45 pm on the lawn, for come and try please ensure you register upstairs and receive you top and cap prior to training commencing.
We will again be raffling a meat tray and a Westfield voucher so be sure to get your ticket!
