Welcome to 2016
I hope everyone has had the opportunity to relax and refresh for the second half of the season. I have attached the Junior Calender from January to the end of the season for Under 7 to Under 13, including Club Champs, Carnivals and Presentation Day. You will see two different presentation days one for the Under 7 and Under 8 group and one for the Under 9 to Under 13 group. The presentation day for Monday March 14 is open to all junior members and will kick off with our traditional shaving cream fight on the beach.
I have also included some details including links to two exciting and fun events coming up, the Nipperthon being held at West Beach on Saturday January 23rd and the Brighton Jetty Classic held on Sunday February 7.
As a reminder Pool Swimming recommences Wednesday January 6 at 7.00pm at the Largs Bay Swimming Centre and Board Training recommences on Friday January 8 at 5.00pm at the Club.
We also pleased to announce that the Semaphore Gold that will be held for the Under 12 & 13 this year, this will be the iron person event for these age groups to use for their club championship points. The event consists of a 2km run to the Semaphore Jetty, 2km board paddle back to the breakwater, 500m run. 800m swim and a 500m run to finish it off. This will be held on Saturday February 6th.
We also have a stocked range of merchandise in the uniform shop for you to purchase as well. I look forward to seeing you all on the beach.
Great turn out for the carnival at Southport with six team. There was not much surf with an offshore breeze giving the competitors a hard row out and back. Thanks To Neil for Jetski Cover and Dean for looking after the many Kids on the beach. Special mention to the 2nd Reserve ladies team with their first Carnival as a team – well done ladies.
Results were:
U19 Mens – 2nd
U23s Women – equal 3rd
Reserve JACCOs – 2nd in the final, 1st for the 3 rounds
Reserve TROGs – TBA
Reserve Women Angry Birds – equal 4th
Reserve Women 2nd team – 6th
Disappointed with the turn out for Packing and cleaning the equipment after the events – no junior teams at either.
Remember the next carnival is state selection 17 Jan, location TBA. Will be for the U19s and U23s.
The New Boat Naming ceremony will take place on the 6th Feb in conjunction with the presentation for the iron person.

Fantastic effort last weekend for the Middleton carnival for the U19s and the Mature men who rowed in reserve grade. The U19s came 2nd in their division and the Mature Men held their own gaining a lot of experience. Great Effort For Steve Harris for his Middleton big surf debut.
I have your ASRL Hi Vis Vest. I will hand them out at each training session.
Remember next carnival 3rd Jan ASRLSA Carnival Short Course Series #3, venue to be advised. Expect all teams to be racing so put it in your diaries now.

We are in urgent need of Bronze Medallion Holders to help complete our rostered hours in the Radioroom this coming Saturday (the 12th of December).
No experience required, you will be shown what to do, it is very straight forward.
If you are free, even for a few hours please let me know as we are struggling to find anyone and we must meet our requirements with SLSSA.

Carnival this weekend
The location will be announced this Wednesday. I will post on boaties facebook page as soon as I know. Please give me nomination by CoB Tuesday. Boat Packing will be Friday 1800. Will be looking for volunteers for towing the boat down as I will be coming from Port Elliot from the junior carnival.
NATIONAL SELECTION – Australian Surf Boat Test Team
Crews are reminded that they must complete the Official SLSA nomination form to be eligible to compete for selection as the Australian Surf Boat Test Team. Open Male & Female Test team: The selection trial will be held at Elouera on Sunday 20 Dec 2015 commencing at 8am. No other restriction applies and any crew that completes the nomination form will be included into the draw. U23 Development team: The selection event with be the Manly carnival on Sat 23 Jan 2016. The highest placed crew from those nominated will be the selected crew and the event will be conducted as per the Manly carnival program. For selection into The Australian Surf Boat Teams both test and Development, all nominations must be submitted via the Survey Monkey link by: 11pm, Sunday 13th December 2015. To be considered for either team you must complete and lodge the nomination form in this attachment. Late nominations can’t be accepted.
