Junior Update 6th Nov

All Nippers who have completed their preliminary and competition proficiencies and are members of the Semaphore SLSC can attend and compete along with nippers from all the other South Australian Clubs.

Nippers Season Handbook Launch

The Nippers Season Will be released this Saturday with the Policy handbook to follow in a few weeks. It is our hope that this handbook will serve as a first point of call for information about Semaphore SLSC’s 2019/20 Season. The combination of the Nipper Season and Policy Handbooks should clarify all the things to do with Surf Life Saving SA and Semaphore’s Nipper programs.

Nipper Proficiencies

Before being able to attend carnivals this season all nippers U9 to U13 must attain their preliminary and competition proficiencies. These proficiencies are set by Surf Life Saving Australia and are not negotiable.

U8’s will need to complete their preliminary proficiencies before the first carnival with their competition proficiencies usually not required until just after Christmas as their first lot of water events are usually included in the January Carnival.

Meeting the preliminary proficiencies will allow a nipper to compete at carnivals in every event except open water events.

Meeting the competition proficiencies will allow a nipper to compete in all events at carnival.

In order to be eligible to attend the State Championship Carnival, Nippers must meet both of the proficiencies listed above and complete all sections of the Surf Education Award for their age group (done as part of our Nipper Training). In addition U13’s, if not completing their SRC during the season, must complete the Resuscitation Certificate (AID) to be eligible.

Quiz Night

Thanks to those who attended this year’s Quiz Night and to the generous businesses that donated goods and services.

The show was sold out and everyone had a fantastic time.

The event raised lots of money for new rescue equipment.

Thank you to the committee who organised the show and a BIG thank you to Andrew and Paula Spencer for being the Quiz Master and Score Keeper.

Draw win!

Congratulations to Simsy for winning $250 in the Members Draw this week.

The jackpot starts again at $200 this Friday. Draw to be drawn at 7:15pm.

Sunday Sessions

Don’t miss this week’s Sunday Session featuring Darren Constable.

Sunday November 10.

Starting at 3pm!

Members wanted for Port Xmas Parade

Semaphore SLSC will once again be represented in this year’s Port Adelaide Christmas Pageant, which is being held on Saturday November 16th. It would be great to have as many Juniors, Youth and Seniors marching as possible.

We understand that it’s the night before the first Junior Carnival but we are expected to be finished by 7pm.

We will be utilising the Peter Kittle Supplied Holden Utility presented last week to tow our usual Surf Boat, so that some of the younger kids can ride along rather than walk the distance. Seats in the boat will be on a first come first served basis but preference will be given to younger kids.

But that doesn’t mean that the older kids won’t have fun as they walk the route and pass out lollies to the public.

We would love to see any SRC’s and Bronzies in uniform to assist in supervising while the floats are in motion!!!

Sorry Mums/Dad’s with younger kids – your attendance will also be required!!

Dress for the day is:

  • Semaphore skull caps, & broad brim hats (if hot) for all juniors and Semaphore training Shirts for all juniors that have them.
  • Patrol hats and shirts, or club gear for Youth Group, Seniors and patrolling members.
  • If you are a non-patrolling parent please wear any Semaphore gear that you have.
  • Optional tinsel and Christmas decorations – that’s up to you.

More info will be supplied soon.

For any questions and to confirm your attendance and claim a place in a surf boat, please email Steph Breden at juniorsec@semaphoreslsc.com.au

Nippers Season Handbook – Delayed an additional week

The Nippers Season and Nippers Policy Handbooks has unfortunately been delayed again. We have an information session with Surf SA next week which may provided additional information, with the Nipper Season Handbook expected to be distributed at training on 9th November 2019, with the Policy Handbook to follow shortly after.

It is our hope that this handbook will serve as a first point of call for information about Semaphore SLSC’s 2019/20 Season. The combination of the Nipper Season and Policy Handbooks should clarify all the things to do with Surf Life Saving SA and Semaphore’s Nipper programs.

In the mean time, if you have any questions please see your Age Group Manager, Junior Convenor (Ian Biggs) or Junior Surf Secretary (Steph Breden)
