Club Champs 2021/22

It was great to see our nippers competing in our annual Junior Club Champs last weekend.

Well done to all, with a special mention to our U13’s who took part for the last time in the junior division.

Keep an eye on our Junior Facebook Page and Instagram for more photos!

SLSSA IWD Photo Op

Surf Life Saving SA are setting up a statewide all-in photoshoot for to mark this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD), celebrating our amazing female members, to feature in The Advertiser and our social media channels.

As such all the special women members who contribute to our club, are in invited to take part in the statewide shoot:

WHEN:

12PM Noon, 6th of March (Photo to run on the 8th of March)

Photo will be taken at exactly 12:05pm.

WHERE:

Seacliff’s Pink Patrol Tent- we’ve also arranged for the Lifesaving assets to be in attendance with female crew.

WHO:

Any South Australian female member

(Please wear current patrol uniform or club gear)

They understand this time/location may not suit everyone but found it would be easiest with many already on the beach for the Masters State Titles. No pressure at all for members to come along but they wanted to extend the invite to those who would be interested.  It won’t be announced over the PA system but any Masters athletes invited by Club Presidents etc. will know to make their way over at this time if they have a gap in competing.

An accessible beach for all

A message from last weekend’s patrol:

Today we had the absolute privilege of meeting Ethan. He is living with cerebal palsy. After today, he has been to the beach twice since he was seven.

Ethan loves the beach and has been denied it for too long. He loved his experience and was able to celebrate his 24th birthday in the water. He joined us in the Club afterwards. His mum Maureen said from her experience today, the Club will be their “local”.

Our aim at Semaphore SLSC is to create an accessible beach for all. To get Ethan on the beach today we used our accessible beach equipment but had to wheel him down the boat ramp, which primarily should be used for emergency services and surf life saving vehicles.

We are campaigning hard with local council to have a beach access ramp installed at Point Malcolm Reserve to ensure EVERYONE can access our beautiful beach. This should be a given, not a campaign. It shouldn’t be something that families with people with disabilities feel is an exception, it should be an absolute given.

If you would like to support our campaign please e-mail: seabirds@semaphoreslsc.com.au to show your support.

If it can be done, it should be.

Regards
Kate Newman

Seabirds take on Port Elliot

This past weekend four members of the Semaphore SLSC Seabirds competed at the Port Elliot carnival.

They kicked off the day by being the first inclusive March Past team in SA!

These kids were awesome – they competed across events, took on new challenges and most of all, had a lot of fun!

Thank you to their buddies (Bolek, Jack, Jacko, Tom and Neli) and support crew for making it possible.

A huge thanks also to Surf Life Saving SA for supporting our kids and the entire surf community who were so welcoming.

Beach Access

Don’t forget – Semaphore SLSC now has a brand new Davinci Chair to assist with better Beach Access.
