Gus Wickman

Sadly I have to share news, for those who don’t already know, that our longest serving current member Gary ‘Gus’ Wickman passed away on Saturday evening.

Gus has been a member of our club since 1959 and has represented the club in competition up until about 6 years ago as a very successful swimmer, as an R&R competitor a bit further back and has continued coaching in R&R. He will be dearly missed by all those who have come to know him as not only a great club person but as a true gentleman. Gus loved his club as much as those who knew him, loved him. He was still very socially active from his Sunday afternoon Crib games with Peter, Thursday and Friday nights at the bar, to his overseas travel and even his ‘boys long weekend’ at the Cox Plate last year. He always had something on the go.

An avid reader, a traveler, a competitor, a coach and above all, a friend, a club man and a family man.

Vale Gus

A funeral ceremony will be held this Thursday 16th February at 2.30pm at Tony Monte, on the corner of Webb Street and Old Port Road. For those wishing to share some time remembering Gus, family and friends will be welcomed at the club for a wake after the funeral service from about 4pm.
