Senior Carnival 1 Wrap-Up

Our first Senior Carnival for the 2015/16 season is done!

Well done to the 18 competitors we had on the beach, especially to the 9 from U14s who competed as Seniors for the very first time!
Although there wasn’t too much surf every now and then the waves picked up and it was a little daunting for some. Thankfully our weekend at Chiton Rocks gave everyone plenty of practice!

We had some good results with quite a few in the top 6 – giving the club valuable points at this early stage of the season.

As usual, without the support we get, nothing would happen at all so thanks must go to the following people:
– our officials – Raelene, John, Michael, Lauren, Pat and Wendy (as usual Semaphore had 3 more than the quota we were given)
– Craig and Greg for towing the trailers (the most packed our board trailer has ever been for a senior carnival!)
– Bruce for being the U14/15 Team Manager and Greg and Pat for supporting him
– Steve, Brad and Michelle for providing water cover for our U14s while they are completing their SRC (the only club that seemed to listen when it was stated that clubs were required to provide 1 water cover to 5 U14s that have not yet completed their award!).

Just a reminder that the next carnival is at Robe on Saturday 28th November and believe it or not Carnival 3 is on the following weekend – Sunday 6th December at a mid-coast venue TBC.

Keep an eye on the website and Facebook pages for calls for nominations for both events.

Rowers – We need another rower for the Mens A team and any U23 Men. If you would like to put your hand up or give it a try please give Aaron a Call

From ASRL some information for new boat that we could be in the draw for and news for open ladies: –

The committee have now confirmed that we will put a brand new surfboat up for grabs as a prize that will be drawn at the ASRL Open. The boat must be and remain prominently branded “Team Navy” for a minimum of 3 years.

This is how the competition will work:

  1. At each Navy event day conducted in WA, SA, Tas, Vic & Qld (NSW Crews see item 7 below) each attending crew will receive 2 x Tokens into the draw
  2. At the Season Launch held on 5 Dec at Surfers Paradise attending crews will receive 2 Tokens
  3. At the Sat of Manly carnival you will receive 1 x Token
  4. At the ASRL Short Course Championship event at Manly attending crews will receive 2 x Tokens
  5. At the ASRL Open attending crews will receive 4 x Tokens
  6. To be eligible to receive the Token each crew must have joined as a member of the ASRL via any of the systems available and all crew members MUST be wearing the NAVY singlet; NO SINGLET AND NOT JOINED UP NO TOKEN
  7. For NSW crews; as no specific Navy Series is available you will collect tokens at Coffs, Mollymook, Manly (Sat event) plus the special events noted above and you must have completed a crew membership before the date of the actual Token Day event AND BE WEARING THE Navy singlet
  8. In all cases you must be wearing your Navy singlets as a crew to be eligible

How the boat prize works:

  1. The ASRL will make available a sum of $30,000 inc GST to the boat winner which is to include the branding logo “Team Navy”
  2. The winner can then negotiate the purchase with the boat builder of choice
  3. If the boat costs more the winner will be required to make up the shortfall
  4. If the boat costs less the winner can use the balance on other equipment
  5. The draw will be made and announced at the ASRL Open in Feb Sun 21

As we close on organising the Open some key decisions have now been made:

  • Racing Divisions:
    • We are excited to announce that at this year’s Open we have added two female divisions. This means that 8 divisions of racing will take home medals against the standard 6 of the past. Divisions are:
    • Open Male
    • Open Female
    • “A” Reserve Male
    • “A” Reserve Female
    • U23 Male
    • U23 Female
    • U19 Male
    • U19 Female
    • The U19 Female is a complete new division
    • Open Female will commence racing as the one division. After  4, 5 or 6 rounds the top 24 point score crews will split into the Open Female division while the next 24 crews will shift into the new “A” Reserve division of racing for the finals

Regards

Aaron
