Senior Surf Camp Round Up

The first senior surf camp of the season was held over the weekend of 4-6th July at Chiton Rocks SLSC. The first camp was less about training and more about team bonding; introducing/further developing relationships between the younger seniors and the older ‘lads’ of our club in order to further ‘bridge the gap’.
We all arrived at different times on Friday (lunchtime, in time for an afternoon surf, later in the evening).
Saturday morning began with the sound of the surf out in front of Chiton rocks. We completed a run around the local surf spots, trying to find a spot that would be suitable for everyone. We ended up back at the surf club with a solid 4ft wave that made life hard even for the older more experienced guys.
After a good feed, world cup fever got a hold of us and a quick 5 a side game of football (soccer for the uneducated) was organised. After about 40 minutes of hectic back and forth we turned our attention back to the surf. A spot a few hundred metres down the beach was found and proved to be much more suitable for the whole group with the majority catching their fair share of waves and dumpings.
Sunday morning started with the surf dying down slightly and Nick and Ben heading back to Christies Beach for IRB state titles. Everyone else packed the cars and moved to Middleton for the last surf. A nice 2-3ft surf proved perfect for the whole group, and saw us spread out across the breaks to get our waves. After a couple of hours of surfing we returned to Chiton Rocks SLSC, cleaned and packed up and headed to Christies to watch the final stages of IRB states. We were lucky enough to see our masters bring home Semaphore’s first IRB state medal!
Overall this turned out to be a great weekend. Everyone got to know each other better, and it gave us a good idea of what to expect for the up and coming season and future camps (we have more planned for later in the year).
Thanks to Nick for organising and everyone for attending.
