Successful start to the Nippers season for 22/23!

SEMAPHORE SLSC Nippers hit the beach!

Semaphore SLSC Nippers crew were back on the beach last Saturday in full force, with 59 new come and try kids! The day started with the usual muster on the lawn with the whole crew, a club run on the beach then split into age groups for some fun on the sand and in the water, finishing with a club run and swim for those that wanted to and had the energy at the end.

.

A massive day with so many membership sign ups and renewals and an abundance of new uniforms bought almost clearing out the bathers restock! Gregg & co served up a storm in the canteen to feed the whole hungry club, the new addition of chips and gravy was a huge hit!

.

Some stats for the day: 59 come and try kids, 66% of our Nippers have renewed already, many more to be renewed as the season begins. Our 2021 U13 crew are at 80% renewal and 100% are our new SRC’s!

Thanks to our local semaphore Ward Councillor David Wilkins for visiting the club and chatting with some of the Nippers. He played a huge part in helping secure the funds for our new ATV, a huge thank you to David!

.

A massive thanks to all of our fabulous age group managers and assistants, first aid, patrols and shallow water cover crew, Nippers couldn’t happen without you.

.

Well done Semaphore SLSC legends, lets make 22/23 season the best one yet!

Boardies Day, Thursday 1st December

After the success of boardies day in November last year, Surf SA is pleased to let you know that they will be running it again this year, on Thursday 1st December to celebrate the first day of Summer (and also recognise National Water Safety Day).

West Lakes Shore and Largs schools are both already on board, so reach out to any other schools and businesses you’re involved with.

The date set is THURSDAY 1st DECEMBER.

As Surf SA implemented last year, they have developed the platform for clubs to be able to conduct their own fundraising efforts on boardies day as well. Last year, they had 2 clubs really get behind the day, raising ~$1,500 for each of their clubs, which was a fantastic outcome. They’d love to see even more clubs get behind it this year, and smash the fundraising record further!

The Raisley platform allows users to sign up and create their own fundraising page. As part of this, those that sign up can nominate a specific club (or the state as a whole) to fundraise for. For those that do not want to sign up and create an account, and just want to make a one-off donation, they can do this too and use the comments box to specify a club if they wish.

You can check out the website here:

https://boardies-day-sa-2022.raisely.com/

Like the last event, they have a suite of great resources to help clubs and members of the public get behind the day and put on a great event. These are all available of the resources page of the website: https://boardies-day-south-australia.raisely.com/resources

To support the event at a state level, they have some great PR opportunities in the works, as well as social and other digital communications. They have setup the new platform to provide a great avenue for your clubs to get behind the fundraising opportunity yourselves. To support and assist you, they are providing this at no cost to your club – so they encourage you and your members to get involved, have fun with it and raise some funds for your club.

To get involved, all the information you need is contained on the website. Surf SA encourage you to channel all fundraising efforts through the site, so they can keep track of the total tally and proudly promote the state wide effort. When encouraging your members and local businesses or schools to get involved, they suggest that you get them to use the sign up form (rather than the direct donation button), as this will allow them to specify the club they want to fundraise for. Once all fundraising for the event has been donated, they will extract reports from the system and remit funds raised to your club, where a club was specified. Surf SA expect to complete this by mid December.

Lets get on board and get as many schools and businesses involved as we can!

Kym will be discussing the evolution of the Seabirds program to include participant transition into age groups at various times during training and what that will look like.  She’ll give you an insight into the various disabilities you might see among the Nippers.  Kym will also be giving a personal account of her experience as a parent with a child with Disability and how we, as a Club, can support Disability families that are among the Seabirds.

.

Please come along and support this information to show your support for Inclusivity in our Club.

All age groups from U6 to U13 muster on the lawn at 12:45pm. Find your age group flags where the managers and assistants will be waiting to sign you in with a smile. Make sure you have your hat, skull cap, bathers, water bottle, goggles, high vis, long sleeve top and plenty of sunscreen already applied.

Our uniform shop is open from 11:30am for anyone that needs to stock up on any new items before the season kicks off.

Our registrar and crew will be at the club from 10:30am to help with memberships and come and try sign ups. All current members log in to the members portal asap to renew, pay for and check off all family members to help ease the process on Saturday morning.

See you all there on Saturday!

Canteen is back this Saturday 22nd October!

Get ready for chips & gravy, falafel AB, devil wings and take home meals!!

Gregg and our fabulous club canteen is back this Saturday, with breakfast kicking off at 9am to 11am with the Semaphore Big Breakfast on offer to members for $15. Lunch is served from 11am to 1am, then the canteen opens back up at 2:45 until everyone is fed. Look out each week for the canteen roster, each Age group needs parents to step up to help, U9’s you’re up first, don’t forget to wear closed in shoes if you’re stepping in to lend a hand.

As well as all the usual delicious menu items everyone loves, new to the canteen this year will be chips and gravy! Following soon on the menu will also be Falafel ABs and devil wings with chips.

Another amazing new canteen addition that will be available soon, will be delicious take home meals after training. Meals, ranging from $12-$15, include Butter Chicken with rice, pulled pork or beef with creamy mustard potatoes, beef stroganoff with rice and more. Take home meals will be limited, so first in first served! After a long day at surf, we will have tea covered!

Once the canteen opens up after Nippers training, our regular snacks will still be available; Dino nuggies, Schnitzel burgers, Nachos and Salt and pepper squid. Donuts are also back, but remember they usually get sold out before training, so don’t miss out and get in prior to training to pay for your sweet treat. The delicious cold rolls sell out quick too so get in early for them as well.

Massive thanks to Gregg for serving all our club bellies so well!

Get your surf wear sorted this Saturday!
