Water cover for schools required

It’s coming up to the end of the year and we have a few school patrols coming up. We’re looking for anyone who is able to head down and help out, even just for a few hours and need to know numbers as there are a significant number of kids for each school.

The club receives donations from each of the schools.  As we are heading into December, it’s a good way to catch up on your hours if you think you may be short.

At this point the dates stand as follows:

8th 9.00 – 2.30 Bethany Christian School

8th 9.30 – 2.30 Thomas More College
14th 10.30 – 2.00 Hope Christian College
15th time TBA Paralowie
15th 9.00 -1.00 Alberton Primary

Let me know on 0433423187 if you’re able to help out!

Cheers,

Jen Hansen

Seniors Weekly Report

Senior Carnival 1 Aldinga Bay.

Senior Carnival 1 will now be held at Aldinga Bay SLSC. The carnival was to be held at Moana but due to winter storms more than 1.5 metres of sand has been eroded from the beach exposing many rocks.

Trailer loading will be after nipper training on Saturday. Please be there to load you own craft or arrange someone to load for you. The trailer will be leaving the club once loading is complete. Plan to arrive at Aldinga BEFORE 8am as it can take more than an hour to get there from the club. All beach events will be held at Seacliff on Friday 25th Nov. starting at 5.30pm. I would advise getting to Seacliff by 4.30pm.

Officials Beach Flags training.

The Officials Panel is organising an information / training session on beach flags for officials who are interested in learning more about officiating and the rules in regards to this event. This session will be held at Somerton SLSC on Thursday 8th December 2016 from 6.00pm.

If you require further information on this session you can contact Richard Crowe on 0407 021 552. If attending please email Abbey@Abbey.Lindley@surflifesaving.com.au

Rhys will be manning the stall for the majority of the day but we need 12 more people to volunteer a couple of hours each. Any under 13s and up, seniors, Patrolling members or life members who are willing to help out, please go to this spreadsheet to find an available  time slot that suits and email or message Rhys with your availability. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10NwFldMkWY2BNsWU44t0la7E48qCnsUy_9YBouULt2Y

You can bring along your kids as well.

Semaphore SLSC gets into the Spirit of Christmas

Our young members had a wonderful time taking part in the Port Twilight Christmas Parade on Saturday.  Rolling through the streets of the Port in two of our boats, the Club was well represented and helped add to the colour and diversity of this annual event.  The Parade has become an expression of local cultural identity, with many community groups involved. Thousands of visitors and locals were out on the streets in warm conditions to witness the celebrations.  A very big thankyou to Rhys Moult and Megan McDonald for organising such a wonderful experience for our members.  Thankyou also to the many other volunteers and parents that assisted in making this happen.  Check out some of the great images captured by Club Photographer Stephanie Breden.

Port Adelaide Christmas Pageant Float 2016

We will be entering a float at this year’s Port Adelaide Christmas Pageant which is being held on this Saturday evening November 19 in Port Adelaide.  It would be great to have as many Juniors and Seniors marching as possible.

We will be towing two of the Surf Boats and will take up to ten juniors in each boat. Names will be taken on a first come first served basis but with priority placed on the younger children getting preference over the older kids.

Dress for the day is:

  • Semaphore Skull Caps for all juniors and red Semaphore Shirts for all juniors that have them
  • Patrol hats and shirts for seniors and patrolling members.
  • If you are a non patrolling parent that wants to walk with the group, please wear any Semaphore gear that you have (you could always stop by the uniform shop on Saturday morning if you don’t)
  • optional tinsel and Christmas decorations.

Participants should be at Baynes Place (just South of Port Adelaide Railway Station) any time after 430pm and before 530pm. The Pageant kicks off at 6pm but there are many road closures and experience says getting a park starts getting tricky after 430pm. Our float should be recognisable with the two Surf Boats but our float number is 16.

Participants can be collected at Todd Street at the completion of the parade.

For any questions and to confirm your attendance and claim a place in a surf boat, please email Rhys Moult corporate@semaphoreslsc.com.au

More information can be found on the Port Adelaide website or on the Port Adelaide Pageant Facebook event page.
