We’ve also included an on-line version on our website under Surf Sports/Nippers/Nippers Season Handbook or you can use the following link:

https://semaphoreslsc.com.au/nippers-season-handbook/

We have also included a full calendar of Nipper activities on our website under Surf Sports/Nippers/Nippers Season handbook use the link:

Port Adelaide Christmas Pageant

Call out to all nipper families. We have a float entered in the Port Christmas parade on Saturday afternoon. The ute sponsored by Peter Kittle will be towing a Semaphore SLSC surf boat but we need nippers and supervising parents to march along.

We understand that it’s the night before the first Junior Carnival but the parade will start at 6pm sharp and we are expected to be finished by 7pm.

Younger kids can ride along rather than walk the distance. Seats in the boat will be on a first come first served basis but preference will be given to younger kids. But that doesn’t mean that the older kids won’t have fun as they walk the route and pass out lollies to the public.

We would love to see any SRC’s and Bronzies in uniform to assist in supervising while the floats are in motion!!!

Sorry Mums/Dad’s with younger kids – your attendance will also be required!!

WHERE TO MEET – Baynes Place, Port Adelaide – look for Parade Section F

PLEASE ARRIVE BY 5:30pm

Dress for the day is:

  • Semaphore skull caps, & broad brim hats (if hot) for all juniors and Semaphore training Shirts for all juniors that have them.
  • Patrol hats and shirts, or club gear for Youth Group, Seniors and patrolling members.
  • If you are a non-patrolling parent please wear any Semaphore gear that you have.
  • Optional tinsel and Christmas decorations – that’s up to you.

For any questions and to confirm your attendance and claim a place in a surf boat, please email Steph Breden at juniorsec@semaphoreslsc.com.au

Junior Carnival Number 1 – Seacliff 17th November

The first Junior Carnival is here, the hosts of the carnival are Seacliff SLSC. The Seacliff Club can be found at 248 Esplanade, Seacliff SA 5049 but the actual carnival will be held north of the club rooms (map below).

It is preferred that all competitors are on the Beach by 7:30am. As mentioned in the handbook there are a lot of things that need to be done to set up for the day for the advantage of all age groups. Our tent needs to be carried to the beach and erected, competition boards needs to be brought down to the tent for the age groups to use, march past reels and equipment also need to be moved down to the tent. Age Groups will also do some warm up activities and last but not least entire families need to be smothered in Sunscreen, just cause its 21 degrees doesn’t mean you won’t get burnt.

R&R Competitors are asked to plan their journey so as to be on the beach by 7am to be prepared to marshal for R&R.

March Past competitors will be required to be in their March Past uniforms and ready to marshal by 8am. Please report to Mandy.

Carnival Attire

The following items are the mandatory requirement – area referees will not allow a competitor to marshal for an event with out these items:

  • Hi-Vis Vest – not faded (required for all water activities)
  • Club Skull Cap
  • Broad Brim Hat
  • Long sleeved top

Semaphore don’t demand that your wear semaphore uniform bathers but of course bathers are required.

Carnival Logistics

  • Carnival location – Seacliff beach, opposite Wheatland St (ie Seacliff Hotel), NOT in front of the Seacliff SLS Clubrooms
  • Gear Trailers – can be towed onto the beach via the ramp at the southern end of the Esplanade; VEHICLES are to be REMOVED once trailer dropped off; please drive slowly & carefully along the beach
  • Club tents – can be set up on the beach as per the map overleaf; please ensure they are secured
  • Car Parking – is along the Esplanade, carparo=k at southern end of Esplanade & surrounding streets
  • Food & drink – will be provided by Seacliff SLSC volunteers & available at the back of the beach (access ramps)
  • Toilets – available along the walking path near the food & drink area

Carnival Schedule

The schedule, as released by Surf Life Saving SA today is shown below. As usual there will be a printed and laminated schedule available from your Age Group Manager so that you can negotiate your way to events.

SLSA National Awards of Excellence

Well done to Sean McKenzie who was one of the Surf Sport Coach of the Year finalists that attended the SLSA National Awards of Excellence last Saturday on the Gold Coast.

Although he didn’t take home the top prize, Sean’s nomination as one of the national finalists is a great achievement and recognition that he is one of Australia’s top surf coaches.

Seniors competing in SA Surf League

Sunday saw the first SA Surf League teams event held at Glenelg Beach.
The competition was made up of club teams competing with 2 boat teams, 8 male and 8 female competitors.
Semaphore combined with Moana, Aldinga and Christies Beach to form SMAC United.

Specialist racing was held for Surf Boats, Surf Swim, Board Race and Surf
Ski in both male and female categories.
There was also a swim relay, board relay and ski relay where teams raced with 1 female and 1 male competitor over the spectator friendly M Shaped Race Course.

Semaphore was represented by Naish Allen, Teagan Richards, Connor Tunbridge & Nic Schulz.
Everyone competed fiercely on the day with some great results on both a personal level and working for their SMAC United team.
The final race of the day was a Multi-Disciplined relay where 2 females and 2 males from each team competed in an exciting and hard fought race.
Well done to all the Semaphore competitors and as you can see by the photos it was tough hard racing.
Unfortunately Naish left early and missed the team photo but pushed hard
racing against the Massive Open Male competitors in the beach sprint.
A great event and hopefully it will be held again as the racing was tight
and up close for the spectators.
