Semaphore welcomes the FOSSLS

It was with great pride that Semaphore SLSC hosted a lunch this week for the FOSSLS (Former Old Semaphore Surf Lifesavers) Group.

The group meet every three months and this time recognised nine members who celebrated their 60th anniversary of attaining their Bronze Medallions.

FOSSLS members travelled from far and wide to shared memories, tall stories and some amazing old photos and memorabilia.  They were very impressed with the club and enjoyed a tour of our Rescue Ready Facility from Wanga Robbins and were amazed at how far patrol equipment and techniques have come over the years.

Congratulations to our new Bronze and SRC graduates

Congratulations to all those who have received their Bronze Medallion and Surf Resuscitation Certificate (SRC) qualifications over the last month.

These graduates will significantly strengthen our numbers for both patrols and water cover in the future. It was also wonderful to see so many Nipper parents making this commitment which will provide invaluable assistance for training and carnivals.

There are still a few who have completed their training but are awaiting their assessments, so good luck to them too!

We must also recognise and thank our training team headed up by Heather, with Spence and Mick Kenny. Without their work we don’t get on the beach full stop.

Nipper Teams Day wrap-up

Last Saturday saw the inaugural Brian ‘Ducky’ Donnell Nipper Teams Day in place of our normal training session and what a great day it was!

Feedback to date suggests the day was a success and it will be held again next year and hopefully for many years after that.

Next year we will look to hold the event earlier in season, possibly as part of the Christmas break-up.

It was great to see all the age groups mixing and the care that our older nippers showed for the younger kids was amazing. This event can only assist in our aim of building strong, resilient, and caring adolescents.

It was also great to see the parents of all age groups interacting with each other and getting to know each other, bringing our surf community together.
