New Volunteer Opportunity: Safeguarding Officers

Surf Life Saving SA has requested that each club has a minimum of 2 Safeguarding Officers.  Semaphore Surf Life Saving Club takes the protection of its members very seriously and wants to ensure that it has a range of people across all areas that our young people aged under 18 are involved in.  The Safeguarding Officer Role replaces the Nipper Safe Officer Role taking into account that legislation covers everyone under the age of 18.  Those in the Role will be identified to members on our website and have their photo up in the club so they can be identified by new members.  They will deal with complaints raised by members regarding any issues around safety of children, as well as being involved in supporting development of policies to keep the children and young people safe.

Safeguarding Officers are required to be aged 18 or over and have or be willing to undertake:

  • Department of Social Inclusion Children’s Clearance
  • Responding to Abuse and Neglect Certificate or Child Safe Environments Course
  • Surf Life Saving Safeguarding Children Training Program

Semaphore Surf Life Saving Club would like to have a male and female identified within the Juniors Training, Seniors Training, Patrols and within the Awards Training Team.  At this time Jennie Charlton and Sean McKenzie have been identified as the Board of Management Safeguarding Officers and will support any members in undertaking this role. Please contact Jennie on instructor@semaphoreslsc.com.au if you would like to know more about this role or would like to nominate yourself by Friday 22 December 2017.
