Semaphore shines this Saturday – 22nd February

It’s going to be a massive day at the Club this Saturday.

Not only is it our Annual Nipper Club Championships but Semaphore will also host the 2020 RnR State Championships.

Competitors will come from far and wide to take part in this event. Junior and Youth Teams will compete in the morning, with Open Categories competing in the afternoon. Adding to this we will be paid a visit by the Westpac Drone Activation team, who will be doing Drone presentations and demonstrations throughout the day.

We will also have food specials available throughout the day and the Bar will be Open from 1:00pm, so it’s a great day to come down and be part of the all the action.

Junior update 20th February

Wow, it’s all starting to happen! R&R States is being held at Semaphore this weekend. Juniors taking part will be competing for medals and points towards the overall State Surf Life Saving Clubs Competition. We will also be holding our Junior Club Championships later in the afternoon (Saturday, 12:45pm – 3pm). Finally, Junior State Championships, to be held over two consecutive weekends, is just a month away.

Training Timetable

Board Training – muster at 4:45pm for a 5:00pm start

R&R – 2020 RnR State Champs from 7:30am at Semaphore SLSC

March Past Training – 12pm Saturday usual muster spot

Nipper Training – 12:45pm Saturday muster on the grass as usual on the Southern side of the Club. 1:00pm – to the Beach for Junior Club Championships see below for details.

Junior Club Championship Presentations – from 3pm upstairs in the club Canteen and Bar will be open so that we can properly celebrate our Club Championships with medal and certificate presentations.

RnR State Championships – Semaphore SLSC

RnR State Championships for Juniors and Seniors will be held at Semaphore SLSC on 22nd February 2020 clubs from around the state decend upon our Beach to compete.

We have had a great response to our call for volunteers with the Breakfast BBQ and Working Party covered. But later in the day it would be great to have your assistance with returning empty glasses to the Beach end of the Bar. I am sure our Hard Working volunteers who will be bringing the canteen to us all day would also welcome some extra help especially at clean up time.

RnR State Championships – Schedule

7:30am – All U11, U13 & U15 Competitors to report for Marshalling as such we are asking that all Semaphore Competitors are at the Club by 7am.

11am – All U19 and Open competitors to Report

RnR State Championships – Catering

Semaphore SLSC has arranged for the following Catering

BBQ Breakfast will be available – Bacon & Egg Rolls, Juice, etc and a Coffee Van on site for that caffeine hit.

From 10am – Semaphore SLSC Canteen will open with all their usual fare

In addition the Westpac Drone Activation Team will have a Gold Coin Sausage Sizzle with all proceeds going to the Club

Presentations, recognising runners up and awarding medals to male and female champions across each event for each age group, will be held upstairs in the Club afterwards.

The canteen and bar will be open and a raffle will be held to celebrate the event.

Participating and placing in events also accumulates points that goes towards the end of season Age Group Champion.

Planning is well under way for the inaugural Junior Teams Day to be held on the 29th of February. Semaphore SLSC will will launch a new era for our Junior program. This event will be run during the normal Nipper training session however there will be a major difference. All Nippers, Age Group Managers and Assistants will be allocated across 8 teams which will compete against each other for the coveted….. (well it will be coveted) Brian Donnell Perpetual Trophy.

The events that will be competed will include:

  • Wade Relay
  • Tug-o-War
  • Sprint Relay
  • Cameron
  • Swim Relay

All Nippers, Age Group Managers and Assistants will be included in these events, even down to the youngest sandcrab.

Teams will be named after club stalwarts bringing together our history and our future. If available, they will be invited to be there on the day as team captains.

Presentation of the Brian Donnell Perpetual Trophy, and bragging rights until season 2020/21, will be made afterwards upstairs at the club.

If your not involved with Nippers, come on down and be a part of this great event.

Details are –

  • From 6pm with movies starting at approx. 6:30pm
  • Instead of 2 features we will be screening a few animated shorts and then a feature ensuring an early night for our Nippers.
  • $5 per head or $20 Family  (max of 5)  – includes Pizza, Popcorn and Ice Blocks.

RnR States at Semaphore – volunteers needed please

Semaphore SLSC is hosting the 2019/20 Junior and Senior R&R State Championships on Saturday 22nd February (9am to 4pm).

To make this event a success we need volunteers to help across a range of different areas, including:

  • Beach Working Party for set up, changes and pack up 
  • Breakfast BBQ cooks and servers
  • Canteen volunteers
  • Bar volunteers – Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate required
  • First Aid Tent attendants

Exclusion zones around marine mammals

Summer time is the calving season for dolphins along the South Australian coast. Please help protect dolphins and calves by keeping a safe distance at all times.

Boats (surf, IRB and JRB), kayaks, surf skis and boards are required to keep at least 50 metres away from dolphins and 150 metres away from calves.

Personal water craft (jet skis) are required to keep at least 300 metres away from dophins at all times.

February 15th and 16th Nipper Training and Junior Carnival at Normanville SLSC

Nippers Training 15th Feb

As usual with a Normanville carnival we have organised to have Saturday training (Saturday 15th February) at Normanville as most families choose to stay down there for the weekend. Semaphore will muster on the Lawn Area near the Normanville SLSC at 1:45pm.

Junior Carnival – 16th Feb

Parking for this location can be difficult so if travelling down that morning please leave time to transition to the beach in time. Please present to your Age Group Manager by 7:45am.

The proposed Event Schedule is shown below with copies available on the day as usual.

WATER COVER ***URGENT***

We will need to provide water cover for both the Saturday training session and Sunday’s carnival. If you can help out either in the IRB as crew or on a board / with a tube please text Steph B on 0429 046 362.


RnR State Championships – Semaphore SLSC

RnR State Championships for Juniors and Seniors will be held at Semaphore SLSC on 22nd February 2020 from around 9am to 4pm, with clubs from around the state visiting Semaphore to compete.

There’s lots of things to organise before hand and we will need lots of help on the day to make this event a success. We will be looking for volunteers to assist in several different areas. Breakfast cookers/servers, beach working party for event setup and pack-up and first-aid tent staff are just some of the areas we will need help with.
