Semaphore Seabirds

Thanks to everyone who came along on Tuesday to hear more about Semaphore’s new Nipper program, the Semaphore Seabirds.

The Semaphore Seabirds is a new group that will run alongside our existing Nipper groups with modified activities for children with additional needs.

The program consists of 12 sessions run in 2 x 6 week blocks, starting 14 November.

Less than 4 weeks to go

Spring has sprung and the 2020/21 season is just around the corner.

Nipper training kicks off for the season on Saturday the 10th October, 12:45pm to 3pm.

This year more than most, we will all look forward to being back on the beach, exercising and catching up with mates outdoors.

Nippers Come and Try 2020/21

Aged 5 – 13 years old and interested in trying surf life saving? Come down to the Semaphore SLSC club and join our Come and Try Program!

The Semaphore Come and Try Program costs $20 and allows Nippers new to surf life saving to attend 3 Saturday sessions anytime between October and December.

The $20 will be deducted from your membership if you decide to sign up for a full season.

If you have any questions about the program or you would just like to have a look around the club, please come down to a pre-registration day on Friday 25th September between 4pm and 6pm.

Alternatively you can register from 11am most Saturdays during the Nipper season. It is a good idea to arrive early and pre-fill forms (available on the website) were possible, as it can get busy, especially at the start of the season.

Junior Convenor Appointed

We are please to introduce our new Junior Sport Officer (Junior Convenor) Matt Grygorcewicz. Many of you may know Matt as an Age Group Manager last season, an active patrol member and passionate Semaphore SLSC club man.

Matt is hitting the ground running preparing the new Nipper season but requires the assistance of a Junior Sports Secretary. This role works side by side Matt with supporting the administration of our Nipper program and is a great way to get involved supporting your child and our Club.

Interest is also sort from any parents who would like to join a Nipper events team, this group will decide what social events are held for Nippers and will make them happen. Previous seasons has seen movie and disco nights well received and enjoyed by all.

Members Schnitzel Night

The bistro is reopening this Friday, 18 September with a members Schnitzel Night. The bistro is open from 5:30pm to 8pm.

Kids schnittys from $10 and adults from $17.

2019/20 Club Awards

With the current COVID restrictions on gatherings and being so close to the season start the Club took a different approach to presenting our awards for the 2019/20 Season.

Awards were collected at an informal session last Sunday with Andrew Edwards being recognised as Club Person of the Year for his tireless efforts across not only patrols but the entire club. Well done to Andrew and all the other recipients.

Have your say

The Charles Sturt Council are reviewing the Community Land Management Plan at Pt Malcolm Reserve and Semaphore SLSC and have provided amended plans for review. The Council are seeking community feedback about the proposed plans.

The amended plans include activities that the area has historically been used for such as surf life saving, car parks etc, as well as new uses such Outdoor Group Fitness training, food and cultural festivals, artistic displays etc. The amended plans also provide the ability for Council to issue licences to groups/businesses for those purposes.

Bar open this weekend

With the weather warming up it is the perfect time to head to the Semaphore SLSC and have a drink on the balcony.

The bar is open this weekend from 4 – 8 pm Saturday and Sunday.

Please note COVID-19 restrictions apply to the number of people allowed in each area.

Semaphore Seabirds information night – 15 September 2020

A reminder an information night for Semaphore’s new Nipper group for children with additional needs is being held next Tuesday.

The Semaphore Seabirds will run alongside our existing Nipper program with modified activities for children with additional needs.

2020/21 Memberships now due

The 2020/21 season is upon us and as such, as defined by the Semaphore SLSC Constitution, all memberships became renewable as at 1st of September 2020.  As per the By-Law change due to become effective on the 16th of September all memberships are required to be renewed by the 1st of October 2020.

As at the 1st of October 2020 a NEW Semaphore SLSC Membership Card will become effective.  This card will give the holder a discount of 10% on Bar and Bistro items however the Membership Card will only be issued to 2020/21 financial members.

The renewal process requires the following

  • completion of the online renewal via the SLSA Members Portal  
  • make a payment of the appropriate membership fee (this can be facilitated via the SLSA Members Portal also)
