Nipper Branch Carnival – 20th Nov

Surf Life Saving SA is trying something a little different to the normal carnival structure for the first half of the 2021/22 season.

On the 20th of November Semaphore SLSC will play host to the Northern Beaches Club’s (Nth Haven, Grange, Henley, and West Beach) however it will only be the U8’s U9’s and U10’s that will compete here with the U11’s, U12’s and U13’s going to West Beach. Sandcrabs (U6 & U7) will continue as normal.

Timing for the Carnivals is the same as Saturday Training with the Carnival kicking off from 1pm and ending around 3 – 3:30pm.

As we are hosting there is plenty of work to do, setting up the beach, manning a food tent and canteen, as such we are calling on all our members to volunteer a small amount of time to assist with this event. So if your a parent please add your name to the list for your age group this weekend. Otherwise add your name to the list upstairs at the club or e-mail registrar@semaphoreslsc.com.au.

Its only a couple of hours so the more people we get helping the less time you will need to spend helping. Let’s share the load..

the goodside project – Towels at Semaphore SLSC

Want a towel that is minimal on bag space, big on water absorption as well as being a quick dryer. Well the goodside project has the towel for you and you can help save the planet at the same time.

They come in a waterproof bag, absorb up to 7 times their weight in water and dry 10 times quicker than a standard towel. If you are familiar with Tesalate towels then these are very similar – just made with 13 recycled bottles.

Almost missed the best part – $5 from each towel order comes back to the club to help fund our Surf Sports programs.

Semaphore SLSC – Silver Salties

Semaphore Surf Life Saving Club has played host to its first Silver Salties sessions with great success.

The Silver Salties program at Semaphore SLSC consists of gentle exercise focusing on strength and stability. For example walking, chair exercises or even a wade or swim in the ocean all done taking in to consideration the abilities of each of our participants and with suitable instruction/supervision.  Best of all, activities will be followed by some time for tea, coffee, and conversation.

The first session saw 14 community members sign up for our Easy Chair Exercise sessions with another 3 signing up in Session Two and another 4 in Session Three.

Silver Salties is;

  • Social & Fun
  • Free
  • Friendly, Safe and Beneficial Physical Activity
  • A small time commitment
  • For all older Australians in the Community

Sessions are every Wednesday at 8:45 am at the club, all are welcome. So why not come down and check it out.

Canteen open from 9am Saturday

Enjoy brekky and a hot coffee overlooking the beach from 9am Saturday.

The full canteen is open through to 1pm and again after Nipper training.

Donut men and donut cinnamon balls are available in the canteen this week.

If you are interested in a donut after training it is a good idea to pay for it before nipper training starts so that it can be set aside for you, as they often sell out.

Volunteers needed

Semaphore SLSC is hosting Junior branch carnival #2 on Saturday 20th November and we are going to need an army of volunteers to help with everything from beach setup/pack up, officials, water cover and BBQ.

Please put this date into your social calendar and get ready to roll your sleeves up to make this event a success.

Nipper Water Safety Certificate for parents/guardians

A reminder the new Nipper Water Safety course is being run on Saturday 13 November. The course will start at 12:30pm and run for approximately 3 hours.

The Nipper water safety certificate course is a new certificate aimed at encouraging parents/guardians to participate in water safety at club level for Nipper activities.  The Certificate is designed as a stepping stone for parents and guardians who are new to Surf Life Saving and are looking for an entry-level pathway to participate/help with Nippers without committing to a full Bronze Medallion.

Please email instructor@semaphoreslsc.com.au to register your interest or alternatively there will be a sign up sheet available at Nippers Muster on Saturday.
