Port Elliot carnival announced

Surf Life Saving SA have announced that the Junior Carnival scheduled for Sunday 20 February 2022 will be held at Port Elliot SLSC.

The country carnival is a great opportunity for everyone to get away and enjoy a weekend together. A lot of families from Semaphore, as well as other clubs, will stay at the Port Elliot Caravan Park, which is walking distance to the carnival. It will also be a good opportunity to check out Port Elliot’s new club rooms.

The full SLSSA Calendar is available on the surf life saving website.

National Water Safety Day

This National Water Safety Day (1 December), Semaphore SLSC held a water safety education day for primary school students from local multicultural communities. It was a great day, allowing kids who don’t get down to the beach very often to have some fun and learn about beach safety.

It was also a good opportunity for participants to check out the new series of beach safety animated videos in 9 languages put out by Surf Life Saving South Australia.

As always, a big thank to our volunteers who made the day possible.

Water cover and patrols this weekend

With the senior carnival at Robe this weekend our usual legends who help out with water cover for nippers and patrol will be unable to help. We are putting out an urgent call for anyone who is available to come down to the club on the weekend and lend a hand with nippers on Saturday and patrol on Sunday. The weather looks good and the nippers and beach going public will truly appreciate your assistance.
Thanks everyone.

Member’s draw

There is $550 up for grabs in the Member’s Draw this week. 6:45pm Thursdays. Member’s must be present and financial. If no one wins you could spin!

Grab a Parmi or something from the new summer menu while you are there.

What’s on this weekend

Friday 3 December
Board Training – 4:45 PM Muster on the grass with a 5:00 PM start. A reminder that you must have successfully completed your 150m proficiency swim this year in order to attend.
Saturday 4 December
10:00am – U13 RnR training
11:00am – U11 RnR traning
12:00pm – March Past training
12:45pm – Nipper training. This week due to the Robe senior carnival we will be short on Age Group Assistants and water cover.  Could any Bronze medallion qualified parents please bring their gear to join the Nippers water cover patrol.  We would also ask that parents offer their assistance to Age Group Managers to assist with beach activities and supervision of nippers.  A gentle reminder that we are not a childcare service and the expectation is for parents to follow their age groups at training to provide support when needed.
Branch Carnival #2 Saturday 11th December
A reminder that parents will need to advise their respective Age Group Managers by the end of training this Saturday (4th December) if their child is intending to compete at the second branch carnival.  We encourage as many nippers as possible to participate and gain valuable competition experience in this new format.  U8/U9/U10 Age groups will be located at Grange SLSC and U11/U12/U13 Age groups will be located at Henley.  Carnivals will be run at the same time normal nippers training is run on a Saturday.

Help Needed for Carols by the Lake

This year the West Lakes Rotary Club will again hold a Carols by the Lake Event on Sunday 6 December.  It will be a primarily kids focus and only run from 5:00pm to 7:30pm

The Rotary Club has requested the assistance from Semaphore SLSC in the setup and pull down of the infrastructure for the event.

Help is ne eded on the day from 2pm (set up temporary fencing) and at its conclusion at 7.30pm (take down the temporary fencing).  Both activities take about an 1 to 1.5 hours depending on the numbers.

The West Lakes Rotary Group are great supporters of our club so it would be great for us to help them out in this small way. Most recently they kindly volunteered their time to run our Catering Tent at the recent Branch Carnival with all proceeds coming back to the club and are sponsoring two new nipper boards that will soon be delivered, not to mention the sponsorship of our Male and Female Volunteer of the Year Awards which see around $1000 coming back to the club in some way so it would be great for us to help them out in this small way.

If you are able to volunteer some time, either 2pm, or 7.30pm or both please let me know via return email to pres@semaphoreslsc.com.au or text me on 0459 442 802.
