Interested in becoming an IRB driver?

Our IRB training team are offering an IRB Drivers Course in preparation for the start of the season. If you are currently an IRB Crew Certificate holder then this is the course for you!

The course begins Saturday 6th August.

We are using the same training model as last season which was efficient and really enjoyable. We are again running the course in conjunction with Henley SLSC. The proposed training schedule is each Saturday during the months of August and September (8:30am to 12:30pm) with a proposed Assessment date of Saturday the 8th October but this will be thrashed around with participants at the first session. We know it’s not possible to suit everyone and there is some wiggle room if you need to miss a session or two.

You must have your boat licence before commencing training.

Prerequisites:

Hold a state boat licence to commence training. To get your boat licence go to https://www.sa.gov.au and type in boat licence in the search engine.
Minimum of 16 years of age to commence training.
Minimum of 17 years of age on the date of final assessment.
Hold and be currently proficient in the following SLSA awards:
Bronze Medallion and Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)
IRB Crew Certificate

Pool Rescue Nationals

Congratulations to Amy Buck who has made the State team for pool rescue and is off to compete in Queensland at Nationals this weekend!!

Good luck Amy, you’ll do Semaphore SLSC proud!

Trainers needed

Are you interested in being a Training Officer at Semaphore SLSC?

Training Officers play a critical role in surf clubs, up-skilling members and putting our patrol members on the beach. A diverse groups of trainers is needed to make this happen.

So what do they do….

Trainers educate candidates to build their surf and rescue skills to achieve Awards such as; The Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) and The Bronze Medallion (BM).

What are their Duties?

Prepare, deliver and evaluate presentations; Apply the principles of effective communication; Organise instruction and demonstration; Conduct instruction and demonstration; Check training performance; Review personal training performance and finalise documentation; Prepare for training sessions taking into account the needs of participants and of the organization; Deliver presentations; Review the effectiveness of both the training.

Quals?

Trainers must hold and remain proficient in the award in which they are delivering training where that award specifies that proficiency is required. You must also be endorsed to train that award as per your state requirements.   If you believe you already possess some or all of the skills and knowledge of this award, or who have received one or more of the related units of competency, you may wish to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer.

WITHOUT TRAINERS, WE WOULD NOT HAVE LIFESAVERS!

Are you keen to give it a go? Please contact Mick Kenny or Andrew Spencer (aspencer0071@outlook.com) for more information.
