Patrol Captain and Vice Captain positions

This year I am taking on the position of Club Captain. With the 2015/16 Patrol Season fast approaching (just over a month away) I am looking to get the Patrol Roster completed and released as soon as possible. In order to do so I am looking of Expression of Interests for Patrol Captains and Vice Captains.

Although these roles are important they are not as intimidating as they may seem and I can ensure you will have a significant amount of support.

If you are a Bronze Medallion Holder with a number of years experience in the Patrol Area please consider taking on this role. You will be expected to attend only a few Patrol Meetings on top of your already rostered patrols and I will be providing you with plenty of information regarding your responsibilities and I will always be on call for any queries or issues you may encounter.

If you have any further questions or would like to express your interest in a Captain or Vice Captain position please feel free to contact me at georgiarobbins47@gmail.com or on 0408841160.

Cheers!

Georgia

Patrols this weekend

As you are aware this coming weekend is Senior States. Because of this we are preparing to ensure our Patrols are manned appropriately. If you are free this coming Saturday or Sunday it would be greatly appreciated if you could head down and help out!

The Senior Members of the club assisted last week to ensure Patrols were sufficient whilst a majority of the club were in Port Elliot so would be great if we could help them out this weekend.

If you are free, even for a couple of hours please contact me on 0408841160 or at georgiarobbins47@gmail.com

Cheers!

First Patrol Raid of the Season

Last Saturday Semaphore had their first Patrol Raid of the 2014/15 season. Brooksy’s Patrol, Captained by Alex Cole and VC Sam Brown did an outstanding job scoring 900/930 or 96%!
Notably around 20 members signed onto patrol yesterday in addition to the very important water cover team!
We are so impressed by the continued commitment, support and overall success coming from the patrol area this season!
So hats off to all those who were on patrol, you have certainly set the bar high.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas!
Cheers,
Alex Reid and Georgia Robbins

Patrol Update – November

Hi all,

Patrols have been running for just over a month and last weekend marked the completion of each groups first patrol! We just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their contribution!

We have seen a massive increase in numbers in all patrol groups, with 98% of rostered members attending their patrols, or finding a suitable fill in. Each patrol has had at least 10 members attend which is a massive improvement on previous seasons. We have also seen the return of many old faces back into the patrol area which is fantastic.

We understand that the changes that were made this season were quite significant but we thank everyone for cooperating with such a positive attitude!

We would also like to thank our team of Patrol Captains and Vice Captains who have contributed significantly in lifting morale in the patrol area.

So far there are no major incidents or rescues to report but we will continue to update you throughout the season.

We are now entering the busier months of the patrolling period, with additional school patrol dates coming up so we will be looking for voluteers to help us out on these days with some rather large school groups.

Semaphore SLSC were already a strong club in terms of patrol but this season sees us take things to a whole new level. So well done team!

Thanks,

Alex Reid and Georgia Robbins

Proficiencies 2014/15 Season!

Its that time of year again! The end of year is fast approaching which means all proficiencies need to be completed ASAP.

We are running things a little differently this year, instead of having many nights when proficiencies are run they will be completed whilst on Patrol. As all members who are proficient should be rostered onto a patrol this means 95% of people will complete it during their rostered patrol hours.

Michael, Jennie and Rob Charlton have established which days they will be attending each patrol, which are listed below. If you are not able to attend your patrol date listed (or are not rostered onto a patrol for reasons discussed with Alex and I) please ensure you attend another. It is unlikely any other dates will be added (unless special circumstances arise).

Ducky Patrol (Captain – Georgia Robbins) – Saturday 8/11/14

Bampton Patrol (Captain – Kenny Tunney) – Sunday 9/11/14

Jones Patrol (Captain – James Brogden) – Saturday 15/11/14

Lloydy Patrol (Captain – Celeste McGregor) – Saturday 22/11/14

Simsy Patrol (Captain – Marty Davidson) – Sunday 23/11/14

Wickman Patrol (Captain – Sean McKenzie) – Saturday 29/11/14

Freaky Patrol (Captain – Ben Mahney) – Sunday 30/11/14

Tidswell Patrol (Captain – Bec Franklin) – Saturday 6/12/14

Skeeter Patrol (Captain – Jennifer Hansen) – Sunday 7/12/14

Brooksy Patrol (Captain – Alex Cole) – Saturday 20/12/14

Please be aware of the time the accessors are putting in to making sure all of our members are proficient so please ensure you are attending one of these days, there are plenty of options to get yourself proficient and ready for another year!

Lastly as discussed at the beginning of the season any proficient Bronze Member of Semaphore SLSC is expected to be rostered onto a patrol (unless have alternative arraignment organised with Alex and myself) so if you are not on a patrol but wish to be proficient please contact me so we can place you onto a patrol.

If you have any issues or enquiries feel free to contact me at patrols@semaphoreslsc.com.au or on 0408 841 160

Your cooperation is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Georgia Robbins

Patrol Roster 2014/15

Dear Member,

Over the past few years, Semaphore SLSC has seen a dramatic decline in the number of patrolling members. This decline has led to a weekly struggle to cover our minimum patrol requirements with Surf Life Saving SA as well as an overworking of a small group of members.

This season we are optimistic that this will change. The Board of Management have backed our decision to follow in the footsteps of many other South Australian clubs and ask that each of our proficient Bronze Medallion holders is rostered onto a patrol.

We understand that being assigned to a rostered patrol has previously been an extensive commitment. This season each patrol will only have a maximum of six rostered patrols which equals to one patrol a month, approximately 20 hours across the season. This is significantly less than last season when each patrol was assigned 10 or 11 rostered dates. We understand that each of us have our own set of commitments outside of the surf club and this is why we are aiming to significantly reduce the level of commitment that being on a rostered patrol incurs.

This season we are lucky to have a strong group of Patrol Captains and Vice Captains who have committed to being an integral part of the changes in the patrol area. We will also be publishing the roster, as well as a number of support documents on our new website so that all members are aware of the changes that are occurring in the patrol area as well as expectations etc.

We look forward to your support in helping to meet our obligation with Surf Life Saving SA as well as keeping our beach safe this summer.

If you have any queries or issues please contact us on patrols@semaphoreslsc.com.au

Regards,

Alex Reid and Georgia Robbins

Semaphore SLSC Club Captain and Vice Club Captain

*Please note the roster will be uploaded on the Patrol Page of the Semaphore SLSC website ASAP (due to a required update we are unable to upload tonight)*
