Aussies updates

Training times this week
Tonight (Monday) skis 4:45pm
Tuesday boards 4:45pm
Wednesday skis 5:30pm (be ready as I’ll be coming straight from uni)
Friday boards 4:45pm
Sunday if weather and conditions permit surf training

Monday 11/4 Skis 4:45pm

Tuesday 12/4 Boards 4:45pm followed by trailer loading

Wednesday 13/4 club swimming 7pm.

Just a reminder that the trailer will be loaded Tuesday 12th April from 6pm. All gear must be tied down personally. All boards and skis will be secured using board straps NOT rubber tubes. Any eskies, chairs or other gear that wants to be sent with the trailers will need to be tied down (don’t just drop and run).

If you can not make trailer loading please ensure your gear is at the club, board in a cover and fin removed with tie downs on cover ready to go (and let someone know).

All competition gear takes priority. If there is room after that then surfboards, training boards for non competitors or nipper boards from younger siblings can then be loaded. Again fins out if possible.

Please let us know what extra gear will be taken ASAP. Other clubs may need spots, so if you are bringing surfboards, nipper boards or plan on buying a board and bringing it home please let us know.

The board and boat trailers leave early Wednesday 13th. If it isn’t on it won’t be going.

Incident at Semaphore Breakwater

Dear Semaphore Member ,

Unfortunately we had a major incident at the Semaphore Breakwater Friday 25th March , our Patrol recovered an unconscious mid 20’s male from the water at approx 3.30pm and commenced CPR , but unfortunately the male did not regain consciousness.

Emergency services & SLSSA were quickly on the scene to support our Patrol including our SLSSA State Chaplin “Bandy Edwards” & Glenelg SLSC Psychologist Tony Davis , who spoke to all members involved on the day.

Police Statements were conducted with all members of our Patrol under Parental Supervision with our under 18 members , SLSSA were also able to be-brief with all Patrol Members who were involved with the Recovery.

If any Club Member feels the need to speak to anybody on how they feel about this unfortunate incident they can contact Bandy Edwards on 0438-523-158 or myself on 0417-478-512 for counselling assistance or further information.

An optional information session for all members involved in the incident along with their family/parents or support person will be held at the Club on Friday 1st April at 6.30pm.

Regards

Neil B

Senior State Champs Wrap-Up

Day 2 and 3 of Senior State Champs were held down at South Port over the weekend.
We had a huge 2 days of competition that sees Semaphore sitting 9th (provisionally) on the points table with R&R Champs still to come.

We had some great results including 6 medals:
* U17 Male Surf Team – Nic Schulz, Danny Humphrey, Cooper Lienert and Sam Squeo – SILVER
* U19 Male Surf Team – Luke Zille, Kyle Thomas, Nic Schulz and Danny Humphrey – SILVER
* U17 Male Ski Relay – Nic Schulz, Danny Humphrey and Sam Squeo – BRONZE
* U14 Male Swim – Connor Tunbridge – BRONZE
* Open Male Board – Sean McKenzie – BRONZE
* Over 24 Male Restricted Surf Race – Sean McKenzie – SILVER

As well as this we had over 15 top 6 finishes all of which earnt the club valuable points.

A big shout out to those that came down to predominantly compete to help fill teams and/or to handle for events such as the belt races – without this support some events would not have been entered; Laurence Fletcher, Nick Penny, Rhys Krauter, Luke Zille, Shannon Harris, Trent Bampton, Michael Williams.

The Seniors are not a large group of competitors with the girls a very small number within this. All of these girls deserve individual accolades for their determination, commitment and dedication to the club:
– Zoe Schulz – the only U15 female who attends the majority of training sessions and is gaining more and more confidence in competition.
– Bianca Williams – the only U17 female who competed in all of the water events in her age group and competed up in both individual and team Open events.
– Bryana Bisset – our U19 ski paddler who also competed in several team events to ensure these could go ahead.
– Shannon Harris – an U19 competitor who supported as handler for belt races and helped fill Open teams. When Shannon wasn’t competing she was a huge support in the managing of the competitors and could often be seen running down the beach carrying someone’s board to an event or holding everyone’s gear while they competed. It’s this behind the scenes support that is so essential to the whole team.
– Paige Purdie – our only Open female competitor. Paige gives just about every event a go and showed some awesome skills on her board this weekend.

Thanks to all of those other ‘behind the scenes’ people whose support is very much appreciated: Kerry Schulz for doing the nominations for the WHOLE competition group, Greg McKenzie and Craig Lienert for always being available to tow trailers to/from carnivals, all of our officials coordinated by Raelene Donnell (Semaphore always made their quota), our photographers – Ailsa Bisset, Vicki Harris and Richard Martin, Pat Larven for supporting wherever he was needed, Daryle Rigney (supported by Bruce Moseley) for being the U14/15s Team Manager, Trent Bampton for being our swim coach and Sean McKenzie for coaching skis, boards and the U14s and being a mentor to all of the older juniors and our senior group.

Well done to Zac Buck and Lindsey Ould who were named Semaphore’s U14 Lifesavers of the Year – well deserved amongst some very tough competition!
Our U14 group as a whole need to be congratulated. This season saw a big change with them only able to compete at Senior carnivals – definitely a tough ask! There is no doubt that our crew stepped up and didn’t let this deter them – something to be very proud of.

With a big number of juniors heading into seniors in the next few years (a few can be seen in the photo below) we are sure our senior competition group is only going to go from strength to strength.

Now – AUSSIES!!!! With only a little over 3 weeks to go until we head to the Sunshine Coast there is no time for rest.
Training is still going – keep an eye on the Facebook pages for days/times. Please remember this training is for anyone that wants to keep working on their fitness and skills not just those competing in QLD.

Thanks for a great 2015/16 season!!

senior states day 2 and 3 update

Please see attachments below regarding this weekend. These include marshaling lists for all events. Please don’t be panicked by the number of entries in each event, most clubs just enter everyone in everything. Also as per usual, all teams are not final, we may make changes on the day due to a number of situations. Marshaling will open from 7am in the club rooms, which will have to be done by all competitors, not team managers, or one person marshaling for a bunch of people.

Events are scheduled to kick off from 8am, so we will need everyone on the beach by 7am, to ensure we have enough time to marshall and warm up.

Also attached is the overall point score where we currently sit in 9th place, but not far behind a bunch of teams.

The other attachments include the final circular and programs for day two and 3.

Meals will be available from 5:30pm on Sunday and we do ask if people could book, to give our kitchen an idea of how many are coming. We will aim to start presentations around 7:30pm

Well it’s here – the final two days of competition for the 2015/16 season!

Days 2 and 3 of Senior States will be held at South Port on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th March.

We do know that Saturday will be a BIG and LONG day so please be prepared for this.

Trailer loading will be on Friday night at approximately 6pm (after our last training session). If you can please be available at this time to load the craft you require for the weekend that would be great.

We will be having meals back at the club on Sunday night from 5.30pm with our great ‘After Carnival’ menu available ($10 per adult, $7 per child).
Presentations where we will acknowledge our successes and thank our supporters will follow.
The club will have an extended licence for this night so we can celebrate the season that was!
